Sarah Barnes is a Supervised Clinician currently completing her Master of Arts in Counseling with a specialty in Addiction Studies at the Hazelden Betty Ford Graduate School. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the College of Charleston. Sarah works under the supervision of Kari Barrett, LPC, CPCS, RPT/S and Kelli Littlefield, EdS, LPC, CPCS, along with faculty supervisors through Hazelden Betty Ford.
Sarah enjoys working with thoughtful, reflective people who want to understand themselves more deeply and create meaningful change in their lives.
Sarah is particularly drawn to work involving identity, relationships, purpose, and meaning. Therapy may explore who you are, what matters to you, how your experiences have shaped you, and what you want the next chapter of your life to look like. She enjoys this work across the lifespan, from children and adolescents developing emotional awareness and identity to adults navigating relationships, recovery, career changes, and midlife transitions.
Her approach is collaborative, practical, and creative. Sarah draws from CBT, DBT, mindfulness, nervous-system regulation, and strengths-based approaches. Depending on the client, sessions may also incorporate art and expressive activities, writing, values exploration, metaphor, play, and other experiential tools to explore what can be difficult to reach through conversation alone.
Sarah welcomes clients from diverse backgrounds and identities and provides LGBTQ+ affirming care.
