Kayla is a Licensed Associate Professional Counselor who received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Georgia Southern University and her Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from South University. Additionally, she holds a certification as a Youth Mental Health Specialist and is trained in EMDR.
She provides individual, couples, family, and play therapy to clients ages 6+. Kayla approaches therapy by first developing a strong therapeutic alliance that is built on trust, empathy, and understanding. She believes that first creating a safe environment where clients have the freedom to process and gain a deeper understanding of their own personal functioning without judgment is important to therapeutic growth.
When working with clients, she incorporates a variety of evidence-based treatments that include Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical-Behavioral Therapy, Solution-focused brief therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy. Kayla develops treatment plans for clients utilizing specific treatment modalities that are most beneficial for the client’s individual needs.
She has experience working with childhood disorders that include Reactive Attachment Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, Autism spectrum disorder, and Selective mutism. In addition, Kayla has worked with a variety of disorders to include anxiety, depression, PTSD, attachment trauma, marital, and adjustment disorders.
Originally from Columbus, Ohio, she enjoys exercising, traveling, diving, and exploring new places with her son, family, and friends.
Kayla is currently under clinical supervision from Kari Barrett, LPC, CPCS, RPT/S and Kelli Littlefield, EdS, LPC, CPCS as she works toward her Registered Play Therapist and Licensed Professional Counselor certification in Georgia.
